Character Typing when writing your novel

  • The first thing you will need to do is to decide what the character would be based on the role you want him or her to play in the plot of the story.
  • When naming the character, you may decide to give him or her a name that will fit into his role. For example, in Danielle Steel’s Echoes, one of the protagonist, Amadea (which means loved of God) eventually became a nun. In other words, her plot suited and inadvertently decided the name she was given.
  • Depending on the plot and setting of the story, you may decide to give the personality an African name or English.
  • You may have to search for male and female names and decide what name you want to give. You will be surprised that you may be a standard. People have named their children after story characters created by authors like you.
